OOTP Baseball 16 App Reviews

OOTP is just the best! Hands down!

Coming over from previous versions of this game, there is nothing lacking and only advancements. What have I noticed that’s new? The Assistent GM is cool, the names of the teams and official licensing, the vivid visuals, some extra stats, and the all-around fluidity of the game.

The Best Baseball Simulation Around

This game is a must for any baseball fan - I knew I could do a better job than the blue jays GM! The detail (i.e. full minor league systems, foreign leagues, draft/rule 5 picks, etc.) is extraordinary. My only regret is that 5 days of my life have gone by and I haven’t even noticed!

The best!

Takes a little bit of time to find your way around, but once you get the hang of it, it is awesome! I’d recommend this to any baseball fan, especially those that love that front office side of the game.

Amazing Baseball Game

I love it. Lots of great functions. I highly recommend it to any baseball nut!

My favorite baseball game!

Out of the Park Baseball keeps getting better every year, and this time the new version simply stunning. You can manage your favorite MLB franchise, trade players, sign free agents, manage the games, develop top prospects and simply see how your league develops. The career play is unlimited, so essentially you could play for ages. On top of that, the game includes every historical MLB season since 1871 for replay and also sort of a construction kit to build your own fictional baseball world. Theres literally nothing you cant do with OOTP 16. If you are a fan of baseball, you should get it!

Best baseball management game

The MLB license is the icing on the cake with OOTP 16. The developers have added a ton of great new features, including new owner goals (now you have specific short- and long-term goals to meet, if you want to keep your job and get your contract renewed), a new managers and coaches system (they have more speciic preferences now, and the manager will tell you “hands off” certain team strategies if you play in GM-only mode), 2015 Opening Day rosters, a new manager-only mode, Hall of Fame and All-Star Game voting, rain-outs, and much, much more. If you’ve ever wanted to just run a baseball team and make all the decisions, this is the game for you. You can trade players, sign free agents, negotiate contract extensions, oversee your farm system, run the June draft, cal the shots from the dugout, and much more. You can also go back in time to 1871 and play forward through baseball history, as well as create all kinds of cool fictional leagues. (Tolkien baseball, anyone? That’s an actual OOTP online league.)

Tremendous!

I love that I can play fantasy baseball wherever and whenever I want. This game puts you in the chair of the manager or GM and I love crafting my roster and then seeing how they perform over the course of a season. While the game ships with MLB rosters ready to go if you want to prove you know more than your team’s GM, I prefer to play by creating my own fictional league and trying to build a perennial contender. There are so many tough choices to make! Is my shortstop’s glove good enough to overcome his terrible bat? Is my prospect ready for the Show? With a pretty challenging trade AI, they might just have to work for the time being. You can really get lost in this game pouring over stats and trying to figure out how to tweak the roster to eke out a few more wins. Very much a “just one more game” feel to it, too. Particularly when you’re in a tight pennant race!

Fulfills every little boy’s (and big boy’s) dream of running a MLB Franchise

Remember when you were a kid and imagined yourself running the front office of your favorite baseball team? Deciding which players get to stay and who you would like to trade to the team you hated the most because you wanted to punish that player? OOTP fulfills that dream…and more. This game is by far the most detailed, most accurate front-office simulation for baseball. This isn’t a “click to swing” type game where you just focus on being able to hit the ball. You have to make sure the 25 guys on the main roster get it done…and the guys at triple A, double A… You are the key to keeping the future of your team alive and not coming the next Chicago Cubs that never have a sniff of the World Series. But the game goes into the detail that you can manage every single at bat, every single pitch of every single game. How deep you want to go is up to you. No one gives you this detail, this depth, and this price. This is one app you will not be sorry you added to your Mac.

Great Game - Frustrating Errors

First off, I must say I find this game to be ridiculously fun and addicting- but in a very abusive relationship type of way. I have watched baseball from as early as I can remember, but i dont consider myself to be any kind of baseball genius. If you are patient and receptive this game can teach you more things about baseball in three days than you could gather in years. Unfortunately the game makers don’t supply much helpful material to help you with the gameplay, which hopefully will change, but even a basic understanding of the game of baseball can chug you along. You’ll find yourself googling the slew of alphabet soup acronyms for stats you never even knew existed and can now never live without. It allows you to submerse yourself in endless worlds either historical, present or if you know what you’re doing completely of your own making. However, gameplay can be as slow or as fast you want it to be- for me it’s painstakingly slow but rewarding. I think to go batter by batter each scheduled game takes me about 45 minutes (this includes sitting there for quite some time to make changes to lineups, pitchers etc.), and I am noticing this time gets shorter the more I know what I am doing. Not for the faint of heart or the person looking for a high level time killer. This game will make you wake up in the middle of night worrying if you’re using the right pitching strategy, or why you just can’t seem to pull off nine innings against a certain team- this game will kill you with a thought. Because of how involved you will get with this game you will find a series of things that are as frustrating as I did. 1. The game screen doesnt seem to know how to position itself cleanly on your screen. I have a 13” Retina and I find myself getting in areas where fonts are running on top of itself or getting cuttoff- just enough to be undesirable to the eyes but not necessarily inhibiting to the game. 2. The game does crash… you’ll find yourself bitting your nails over a tie game for 4 innings, get a 2 run HR only to have the game crash on you. When this happens you can only start from your last save. Which if you’re like me it can be anywhere from the beginning of the game you just played or the beginning of the 4 game series you were being destroyed in anyway- but still this is beyond frustrating. 3. A full screen mode. I feel like I am always wanting a far more submersive atmosphere out of the game, but no your dock will be ever present and so will the reminder that as you manage your fictitious baseball team to glory the notifications for emails, imessages, and other things indicate the continuing spin of the real world outside your window.

Keeps me coming back to manage another game

This is my first version of OOTP, and I wasn’t sure how much I’d like a game where I can’t actually see the players pitching/hitting/running/throwing, but it is surprisingly compelling. The realism is there, and the stats are jaw-dropping in their detail. I’m learning more about the various teams, players, and the rules of the management game each and every day by virtue of this program. I find myself compelled to come back to it each day for another quick game. The only reasons I have to give it one point off are: 1) The mouse click regions are a bit too small and sensitive to movement before the up-click, especially with a trackpad, so that there are far too many times that I click on a button and it does nothing because the cursor moved a little bit before the up-click. In such cases I have to repeat the action while actually concentrating on not moving the cursor during a click if I want it to be recognized. Clicking on a button shouldn’t be as unforgiving to small movements as it currently is. 2) I have yet to see a single play where a strong throw from the outfield actually beats a guy trying to stretch a hit for an extra base … that should happen at least once in a while (although maybe I’ve just been unlucky thus far). 3) There are a few combinations of options that should be available to the team in the field that aren’t - like an instruction to “pitch around” a batter for the complete duration of an at bat, rather than doing so one pitch at a time, or the ability to signal the first basemen to hold a runner while simultaneously giving a signal to the pitcher for a specific type of pitch approach (right now it is either one or the other). 4) The text printout of the play-by-play can be a bit of a struggle for old eyes like mine after a while, and the games themselves could become SO much more compelling if they could convert that text into audio … then it would be just like listening to a radio broadcast. It wouldn’t even slow the game down, since the pacing of the play-by-play printout is similar to that of speech. In my opinion, such an added feature would push this game right into the stratosphere and beyond. Maybe in next year’s version?

Worth it, but menus can be buggy

Well worth the $40 I spent on it. Only issue I’ve had is that menus tend to end up going to the wrong option (ex. I’ll click on my AA team and end up looking at my DSL team), but that’s it. Overall one of the best games I’ve ever played and certainly the most detailed.

Great Game

This game is not only one of the best baseball sims I’ve ever played, it might be one of the best simulation games I’ve ever played. (up there with the Sim City Series). I wasn’t really expecting this level of stats and depth in terms of baseball knowledge and situational on-field/off field simulation. The High Heat series and the MLB: The Show series as good as they were, just don’t compare. I mean if you’ve ever wanted to or thought you could manage a sports organization this is the closest you’ll ever get. I never ever rate stuff in the app store but for this game I must! If you have the means I highly recommend picking this one up. Interface: (9 out of 10) Very Intuative and Very Modern-Sometimes drop down menus are confusing but not really. I took one point off for that. Simulation: (10 out of 10) Gives a whole new meaning to indepth on-field/off-field decision making. Makes you feel like a real life manager. Replayability: (10 out of 10) I probably spent 40+ hours in the first week playing it. Since I don’t have MLB:The Show, this is my go-to baseball game. Updates and Support: (9 out of 10) Seems like the developers are always fixing bugs and updating the rosters according to the season. Good stuff guys! Overall: (9.75 out of 10) as close as you can get to a perfect game and you never really play the game in a traditional button-mashing kind of way. Way cool!

Not a better Sim out there.

I’ve written maybe one other review ever. Though, this game really warrants praise for baseball fans who crave sitting in the GM chair. I’ve played the Baseball Mogul series since the turn of the century, but found myself going over to OOTP the past few years. This installment is near pefection. From the amount of stats, customization options, and minor league rosters - it’s incredible! Though, it can be intimidating to new players. There’s a lot. You can lose hours before you even start a season, but that’s not a bad thing. It’s total immersion into the baseball world.

Amazing Game

This might easily be my favorite game I have ever owned. It has absolutly everything you want to run a baseball team from the ground up.

Greater than Ever

I’ve owned every version of OOTP for years. Each season gets better and better and OOTP16 is no exception. The realism of the play and management of teams and leagues is enhanced by the new MLB sponsorship. This is "statistics heaven" for a long-time baseball fan like me. Highly recommended and addicting. Worth every penny. Great software!

The Best OOTP to date!!!

I have played the past four years of OOTP, this just gets better and better. :-)

OOTP16 is a GRANDSLAM

This is my first baseball simulation game since APBA. I have just started experimenting with all OOTP16 has to offer, and I am not disappointed! The historical options are truly amazing. Trust me when I tell you, the price for all you get is a Lou Brock steel!

Addicting

Incredible detail. Addictive. Fun! Especially for statistics buffs. As close to being a real manager/coach as you can get.

Incredibly Deep Game

If you’re a huge baseball fan, or you love fantasy sports, you’ll probably love this game. You can manage rosters from leagues all over the world, as well as MLB teams with their entire farm systems. You can play as a team manager, a general manager, both, or league commissioner. It’s really fun, so detailed, so immersive. Best sports management simulation, and one of the best simulation games period, of all time.

Doesnt Work

This game does work and freezes. Do not buy this! I have tried everything and now have to seek a refund.
